La Salle withstands late-game Frontenac surge

Posted: September 24th, 2014 @ 7:54am

A late-game rally fell short for the Frontenac Falcons Tuesday afternoon, as they bowed 44-41 to the La Salle Black Knights in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls basketball game at La Salle.

Frontenac led 10-8 after the first quarter but the Falcons were overtaken in the second, as the Knights took a 21-14 lead into halftime. The lead grew to as much as 11 points in the fourth quarter, 42-31, but Frontenac made things interesting with a 10-2 run in the final three minutes.

Lilie Dixon led La Salle to its second consecutive victory with 17 points, while Anne Wagar scored 16 for Frontenac, which was making its season debut.

In other A division games Tuesday, the Holy Cross Crusaders got 11 points from Jennika Lapierre and 10 from Lexi Perrin as they began their schedule with a 49-18 win over the Sydenham Golden Eagles and the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers improved to 2-0 by defeating the Bayridge Blazers 44-22.

Playing at Holy Cross, Andrea Marquez led Sydenham with five points, as the Eagles fell to 0-2.
