Posted: March 9th, 2015 @ 11:33pm

Both Kingston-area teams remain in contention at their respective Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations hockey tournaments after Monday’s opening day of play.

At the boys championship in St. Catharines, the Frontenac Falcons gained a 2-2 tie with Medway of Arva. The Falcons will resume their preliminary round-robin Tuesday morning at 10:15 against Brother Andre of Markham.

The Holy Cross Crusaders, the fourth-seeded team at the girls championship event in Ottawa, split their two games Monday, dropping a 2-1 decision to North Toronto, before defeating St. Theresa of Midland 1-0.

The Crusaders will conclude their preliminary round Tuesday aginst St. Marcellinus of Mississauga and Elmira. St. Marcellinus, the seventh-seeded team, is the only team in Pool D that is undefeated after two games. Elmira, Holy Cross and North Toronto all enter Day 2 of the tournament with a 1-1 record.
