Granite Ridge posts senior volleyball victory

Posted: September 29th, 2015 @ 9:02pm

Granite Ridge Gryphons made the ride home that much longer for the Frontenac Falcons Tuesday afternoon, as they pinned a 3-0 defeat on their opponent from the city in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior volleyball match in Sharbot Lake.

Robert Crawford had eight kills and five blocks for Granite Ridge, which evened its early season record at 1-1.

Elsewhere Tuesday, the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers defeated the Loyalist Lancers 3-0, the Holy Cross Crusaders blanked the Napanee Golden Hawks 3-0, the La Salle Black Knights beat the Marie-Rivier Dragons 3-0 and the Kingston Blues took a 3-0 win from the Sydenham Golden Eagles.

Playing at home, the Panthers won for the second match in a row, thanks in part to 15 service points from Nathan Burtch. Andrew Borschneck and Enzo Romeo each had four kills to lead the Regi attack.

At Sydenham, Jack Cockfield had eight kills to spark visiting KC to straight-set wins of 25-20, 25-19, 25-19. Chad Nesdoly had seven kills for the Blues, while Simon Coates-Lemery had four kills and three stuff blocks.

Play resumes Wednesday, when Sydenham hosts Holy Cross.
