Regi wins third straight; Granite Ridge proving to be tough place to play

Posted: October 1st, 2015 @ 10:02pm

Sharbot Lake remains an inhospitable place for visiting volleyball teams.

The Granite Ridge Gryphons posted their second home-court win of the young high school volleyball season Thursday, defeating the visiting Bayridge Blazers 3-0 in one of four senior matches played in the Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association.

Taylor Meeks had eight kills and three blocks for the Gryphons, who improved to 2-1 at the expense of winless Bayridge.

In other matches:

The Loyalist Lancers improved to 2-1 with a 3-2 home-court win over the La Salle Black Knights; the Napanee Golden Hawks gained their first win of the year, 3-1 over the Frontenac Falcons, and the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers won their third match, without defeat, 3-0 over the Kingston Blues.

Playing at KC, Regi got a combined 20 kills from Greg and Andrew Borschneck, while Nathan Burtch came off the bench to deliver numerous service winners and digs.

Play resumes Tuesday with six matches.
