Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.
Friday, April 2, 1976
Facing elimination, the Kingston Canadians gain a 4-2 victory over the Ottawa 67's at the Memorial Centre. The 67's entered the game leading the eight-point quarter-final series 7-3, needing just a tie to end it.
"For two periods it was a bitter but brilliantly played defensive struggle in which it appeared Ottawa coach Brian Kilrea's strategy was just to stay close and hope to steal a tie," Art Wright wrote in the Whig-Standard. "It worked for 50 minutes."
The first period was the first scoreless period in the series and the teams were tied 1-1 going into the third. It was 2-2 when Ken Linseman scored at 10:39 to give Kingston the lead. Barry Scully then scored after Daryl Benjamin stole the puck deep in the Ottawa zone and passed to Scully, who was alone in front of the Ottawa goal and picked the top corner.
Greg Hotham scored Kingston's other two goals, while Mark Suzor had two assists. Ottawa got its goals from Tom McDonell and Bobby Smith.
The crowd of 3,941 raised total attendance for the six games of the series to 35,120.
