Today in Kingston junior hockey playoff history

Today's installment in a daily feature that looks back at this date in Kingston junior hockey playoff history.

Peterborough Petes take a 4-0 first-period lead and they go on to demolish the Kingston Frontenacs 11-5 in Peterborough, winning the best-of-seven Leyden Division championship series 4-1 and ending a playoff run that remains the deepest in Kingston major junior history.
"It's the end of our season but the beginning of a tradition," said Kingston general manager-coach Dave Allison. "The character these kids showed holds well for the future of the team."
With the win, the Petes will advance to meet the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for the Ontario Hockey League championship. Both teams will advance to the Memorial Cup tournament, being held next month in the Sault.
Dale McTavish and defencemen Chris Pronger and Brent Tully each had two goals for the Petes, while Mike Harding, Jason Dawe, Dave Roche, Chad Grills and Doug Searle shared the others. Chris Gratton had two goals for Kingston, with Cory Johnson, Craig Rivet and Steve Parson getting one apiece.
