Ex-Gael Bryan Crawford new executive director at OUA

Posted: August 29th, 2013 @ 9:04pm

Former Queen's Golden Gaels football player and track athlete Bryan Crawford has been named interim executive director of Ontario University Athletics, the organization announced Thursday.

He replaces Ward Dilse, who stepped down in June after 13 years in the position.

"Bryan has demonstrated strong leadership within the office during this transition and is familiar with all aspects of the organization's operations," said OUA president Jennifer Myers, the director of sport and recreation at York University, in a release.

"He has the full confidence of the board of directors and I am thrilled to have someone with Bryan's skills to see us through this period of change."

Since graduating from Queen's in 2005 with a degree in political studies, Crawford has held various roles within OUA since joining the regional association staff in 2007. He served as sport programming coordinator while serving as special teams captain of the Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts, for whom he played from 2005 to 2011.

In his four-year football career at Queen's, 2001-04, most of it spent during the Tom Denison era, Crawford rushed for 1,315 yards, including a team-best 685 yards in his final year. He was the East team's most valuable player in the 2004 East-West Bowl, where he led his team in both rushing and receiving yardage.

While with the Argos, Crawford spent five years as a member of the CFL Players Association board of representatives and was deeply involved throughout the last collective bargaining negotiations.

When he retired from professional football Crawford took on the more senior role of sport programming manager at the OUA office in Hamilton, his hometown, where he attended Barton Secondary School.

Ontario University Athletics is the sport-governing body for intercollegiate programs at 20 Ontario universities, overseeing competition in 23 sports.
