Strong second half seals victory for Frontenac

Posted: April 24th, 2014 @ 1:23am

Frontenac Falcons nursed a one-goal lead into halftime but then they exploded for four goals in the second half as they defeated the Napanee Golden Hawks 5-0 in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior girls soccer game Wednesday at Caraco Field.

In the opening game of the season for both teams, Hanna Gazdik's shutout goalkeeping made Emilie Belliveau's first-half goal good for the victory but the Falcons bought some insurance after the break with two goals by Jenna MacLean, another by Salina Rogers and a penalty-kick goal near the end of the game by Shannon Pincivero.

Elsewhere Wednesday, Marilyn Doherty scored three goals to lead the Holy Cross Crusaders to a 7-0 win over the Loyalist Lancers; three different players scored as the Kingston Blues blanked the Marie-Rivier Dragons 3-0, and the Sydenham Golden Eagles got two goals apiece from Michelle Walsh and Taylor Simmons and one from Emily Myers in their 5-1 win over the Ernestown Eagles.

In a game at Queen's University's upper west campus field, Sabrina Goncalves, Savannah Barbosa, Ashley MacDonald and Kelsie Norman scored one goal each to complete the Holy Cross scoring.

KC got goals from Ella Bastien, Evie Streight and Maria Tsinaridis in support of the shutout goalkeeping of Carley Gordon in a game played on Tindall Field.
