Napanee girls bound for national fastball tournament

Posted: August 1st, 2014 @ 7:03pm

The first girls team ever to represent Napanee at a Canadian fastball championship will depart Sunday for White Rock, B.C., and the Softball Canada under-14 Tier II tournament, a week-long event that starts Tuesday.

Other Napanee teams have competed at eastern Canada events but the novice Express will be the first at a national championship, having earned that spot at the provincial A championship tournament in Guelph last weekend.

The girls will be active at a number of events in Napanee this weekend, hoping to raise some of the $24,000 cost of the trip. Anyone wishing to support the cause can do so online, at www.gofundme.com. Enter Napanee Express to donate.

The girls are one of three Softball Napanee teams bound for major championships this month. The junior boys will be in Irma, Alta., in two weeks for their national championship, while the midget Express is in Saskatchewan this weekend for the western Canada tournament.
