Klassen scores 20 but Acadia bows in bronze-medal contest
  Posted: March 10th, 2013 @ 4:04pm

Owen Klassen scored a team-best 20 points Sunday afternoon but it was not enough to help the Acadia Axemen avoid a 92-85 overtime defeat at the hands of the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the bronze-medal game at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport men's basketball championship in Ottawa.

With 28 points in the first half and a 37-35 lead at halftime, Acadia, the Atlantic conference champion, was blitzed by a 30-point Ottawa third quarter and the Axemen trailed by seven going into the final period.

Acadia outscored the Gee-Gees 19-12 in the final eight minutes, but Ottawa won the overtime 15-8.

Klassen, a Bayridge Secondary School grad in his fourth year in Wolfville, was 4-for-11 from the field and 12-for-19 from the free-throw line. He also had six rebounds before fouling out of the game.
