Kings sign three rookies for coming lacrosse campaign

Posted: May 6th, 2013 @ 4:31pm

As the Kingston Kings begin the final week of preparation for the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season, they announce the signing of three first-year players for the 2013 campaign.

Jonah Lewis, Chavis Maracle and Nick Amaral all made their junior debuts in the Kings' home-and-home exhibition series with Gloucester last month. All three players were members of the Kingston Krossfire team that won the Ontario Lacrosse Association midget D championship in 2012.

Lewis has a big shot and the potential to become a lethal offensive player, Kings coach Mike Dube said. "Jonah will be relied upon in a secondary scoring role, as well as used frequently on the power play."

Chavis Maracle is the cousin of current teammate Austin Maracle. His brother, Shandon Maracle, played for the Kingston juniors in 2010. "Chavis is a big body who is fundamentally sound and works hard to be a better player every time he's in the arena," Dube said. "He will be used primarily as a stay-at-home defensive player."

Amaral is a student at Holy Cross Secondary School. "Nick is a player who is eager to become a more well rounded, two-way player," Dube said. "He will be used both offensively and defensively and relied upon to make a good fundamental (contribution) gaining loose balls."

The signings bring to 17 the number of players carded to the Kings, who will open their regular schedule Thursday at Centre 70, when they will host the Gloucester Griffins. Game time is 8 p.m.
