Posted: June 5th, 2013 @ 9:35pm

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers began play at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations boys rugby tournament Wednesday with a 31-14 victory over Ottawa St. Peter at South Nepean Rugby Park in Ottawa.

The Panthers, Kingston Area and Eastern Ontario champions and the No. 6 seed at the 16-team tournament, will advance and play Saltfleet of Stoney Creek, 20-5 winner Wednesday over Upper Canada College and the third-seeded team at the AAA/AAAA championship. The second-round match will be played Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

The tournament's No. 1 seed is Brantford Collegiate, 30-0 winner in the first round Wednesday over Ottawa Glebe.

Regi's other OFSAA-bound team will begin play at the AAA girls soccer championship Thursday at noon in Windsor against the second-seeded team in the tournament, Belle River.

The Panthers will play four games Thursday and Friday, hoping to emerge from their five-team pool with one of two quarter-final berths. Regi's other game Thursday will be against Belleville Centennial at 3 p.m.

Also in the pool are Senator O'Connor of Toronto and eighth-seeded Loyola of Mississauga. Regi will play both of those teams Friday and if it reaches the playoff round, will have a quarter-final game Friday at 5:15 p.m.

The top seed in the tournament is Louis-Riel of Gloucester.
