Regi captures silver medal at OFSAA boys rugby

Posted: June 7th, 2013 @ 9:56pm

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers came home with the silver medals from the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations AAA/AAAA boys rugby championship Friday, after they dropped the championship match of the 16-team tournament in Ottawa.

Regi, undefeated in three games to reach the gold medal game, was beaten 25-15 by Brantford Collegiate, the tournament's No. 1 seed. It was Brantford's third OFSAA title in the last 13 years.

In winning its other three games, Brantford hadn't surrendered a point but the Panthers, who entered the tournament as the sixth-seeded team, solved that previously perfect defence for three tries, two by Nicholas Carriere and one by Rhys Davies.

Brantford held a 10-5 advantage at halftime, and outscored Regi 15-10 in the second half.
