Frontenacs 50th

Posted: February 25th, 2013 @ 10:10am

Today's installment in a daily series that recalls the story of the 1962-63 Kingston Frontenacs, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of their Eastern Professional Hockey League championship season:

Fifty years ago today, Monday, February 25, 1963

St. Louis Braves coach Gus Kyle calls Kingston captain Harry Sinden "the best defenceman I have ever seen in minor pro hockey."

Kyle, who played three years in the NHL and who would later be a radio voice on St. Louis Blues hockey broadcasts, told Whig-Standard sports editor Doug McConnell he'd never seen Sinden lose the puck where it has led to an opponent's shot on goal.

"He either gets it in his own end or gets it out," Kyle said. "I figure we'd have at least 14 points more than we have now if we had someone like him on our club."
