Big first half propels Regi to senior football victory

Posted: October 4th, 2013 @ 9:53pm

Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers took a commanding first-half lead and they withstood a second-half rally Friday afternoon to defeat the Bayridge Blazers 28-14 in the only Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior football game.

Playing at Bayridge, the Panthers had a 28-0 lead at halftime. Regi quarterback Courtney Norris spread the ball among five different receivers, including Aidan Schwartz, with whom he completed a 40-yard touchdown pass.

Ryan Fox, Stu Mulholland and Ameen Aghamirian scored the other touchdowns for Regi.

The win, Regi's second in a row after an 0-2 start, lifted the Panthers to .500 for the first time this year. Bayridge sagged to 0-4.

Play resumes Wednesday, when Regi hosts Ernestown. The game of the week will be played Thursday at 3:45 at Holy Cross, where the Frontenac Falcons, 3-0, will play the Crusaders, a 2-1 team that hasn't allowed a point in its last two games. Also Thursday, Sydenham, 1-2 but without a touchdown in its last two games, will entertain Bayridge, as La Salle gets the week off.
