Kings open exhibition schedule at home Friday

Posted: April 30th, 2014 @ 12:15am

Kingston Kings will play their first games of 2014 this weekend in a home-and-home preseason junior lacrosse exchange with the Gloucester Griffins.

The Kings will host the Griffins Friday night at 8 p.m. at Centre 70, before travelling to Ottawa for a return engagement Saturday afternoon, 3 o'clock, at Earl Armstrong Arena.

The Kings are coming off a season where they finished 7-8-1, fourth in the East division. Gloucester finished last in the division, winless in 16 games.

Friday night will be the Kings' annual charity night. No admission will be charged for the game but in lieu of that the team will be collecting cash donations and non-perishable food items for the Partners in Mission Food Bank.

The Kings are close to completing their roster for the coming season, signing four more players. Among them, captain Logan Rose, 19, will be beginning his fourth season with the club, while goaltender Nic McFarlane, 19, will be beginning his third.

Both are just returned from a year of post-secondary study, Rose at Sheridan College and McFarlane at Laurentian University.

Also newly signed are rookie Nolan MacInnis, 16, and Josh Baker-Joyner, 18, who missed virtually all of the last two seasons as he recovered from a knee injury. They bring to 14 the number of players signed to junior cards for the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League season.

The Kings will open their regular schedule Thursday, May 8, at Cornwall. Kingston's home opener will be the following Thursday, May 15, against Gloucester.
