Posted: August 13th, 2014 @ 8:35pm

Napanee Express will be seeking its third-straight win tonight when it plays Quebec at the Canadian junior fastball championship tournament in Irma, Alta. The Ontario-champion Express got itself back in the hunt for a double life in the playoff round at the nine-team tournament with a 12-3 win Wednesday morning over the Stratford Cubs, the No. 2 Ontario team at the competition.Playing the first game of the day, Tyson Zehr and Ty Sebastian each had three hits and each hit a home run for Napanee, which improved its record to 3-2.The Express will play the Express of St-Leonard d'Aston, Que., at 8:30 p.m. EDT. The Quebec team also improved to 3-2 Wednesday with an 11-2 win over the Yorkton, Sask., Blue Jays.Napanee jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, scoring all of its runs after two were out with no one on base. Only one man had crossed the plate when a Stratford error prolonged the inning and the Cubs paid for it four batters later when Zehr hit a three-run home run.Sebastian's solo shot in the third inning extended Napanee's lead to 6-2 and the Express led 6-3 when it scored six runs in the top of the fifth to invoke the mercy rule. Two were out and only one run was in when the floodgates opened again for Napanee. After back-to-back doubles by Sebastian and Braden Scott started the inning, Zehr tripled, Michael Jordan doubled and Cole Bolton greeted Stratford reliever Johnny Baker with a three-run homer.Napanee collected 10 hits, while Express pitcher Brandon Sands allowed six hits, the best of which was a two-run home run by losing pitcher Tyler Randerson with no one out in the second inning.Sands struck out five and walked two.All of Napanee's wins have come in less than the regulation seven innings. In its five games the Express has scored 50 runs in 29 innings.Going into Wednesday night's play, the host Irma Tigers remain undefeated at 5-0. They'll play Owen Sound in tonight's final game at 10:30 EDT.Owen Sound, the third Ontario team at the tournament, is 4-1 while Napanee, Saskatoon and Quebec are all 3-2. Stratford, after starting the day 3-1, subsequently lost 7-5 to Saskatoon to fall to 3-3.LinescoreNapanee         501     06 -  12       10       0Stratford        020     10       -        3          6          1Brandon Sands (W,1-0) and Brandon Blunt; Tyler Randerson (L,1-1), Johnny Baker (5) and Nick Penner, Tom Fischer (5).
