Unbeaten Holy Cross hands La Salle its first loss

Posted: September 30th, 2014 @ 9:18pm

Holy Cross Crusaders dispatched the La Salle Black Knights from the ranks of the unbeaten Tuesday, as they posted a 33-24 victory in a Kingston Area Secondary Schools Athletic Association senior A girls basketball game at La Salle.

It was the Crusaders' third victory without defeat this year, as La Salle fell to 2-1.

On Thursday, Holy Cross will deal with the league's other undefeated team, when the Crusaders entertain the Regiopolis Notre Dame Panthers. On Tuesday the Panthers, with Hailey Wolfgram scoring 13 points, defeated the Frontenac Falcons 54-18.

Playing at Regi, the Panthers prevailed tough the visitors scored 10 points in the game's first four minutes. From that point, Regi unleashed a withering defensive effort, allowing Frontenac to score just eight more points in the final 28 minutes.

Holly Kintstler added eight points to the winning attack.

Elsewhere in senior A division Tuesday, the Sydenham Golden Eagles gained their first victory of the season, a 31-24 home-court decision over the Bayridge Blazers.

Today, someone will gain their first victory of the season, as Bayridge and Frontenac, both 0-3, will meet at Bayridge.

In senior B division, the Loyalist Lancers won their fourth game in a row, 53-13 over the Golden Hawks in Napanee; the Kingston Blues improved to 2-1 with a 41-20 victory over the Ernestown Eagles, and the Queen Elizabeth Raiders won their first game of the season, 46-13 over the Granite Ridge Gryphons.
