Kyle Aylesworth named to ECAC all-rookie team

Posted: May 6th, 2013 @ 1:28pm

Kingston's Kyle Aylesworth has been named to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division II men's lacrosse all-rookie team.

Aylesworth, a sports management major, plays an attack position for the Ohio Valley University Fighting Scots. He tied for second in the conference with 46 goals and he was twice named ECAC Division II rookie of the week.

In one eight-day span in early April, Aylesworth had consecutive games of seven, six and eight goals. He led his team with 54 points, 19 more than the team's next leading scorer.

A Frontenac Secondary School grad, Aylesworth expects to be back home in time to begin his fourth season with the Kingston Kings junior C club Thursday night.

"We are extremely proud and excited for Kyle," Ohio Valley coach Corey Struss said in a release. "Kyle has worked hard in the weight room and on the field to earn this award, and it points to a bright future for him."

Ohio Valley, in Vienna, W.Va., is one of eight founding members of a conference that spans four states and was established in 2012. The Fighting Scots were 6-11 overall, 2-5 in conference play.

"This is a big achievement from a personal scale for him," Struss said, "and it also means a lot for a program in its infancy.  Throughout the year we have worked to build the foundation of this program and establish ourselves within Division II. Kyle's award is a great indication that we are doing just that."
